Lana Scott is the Assistant Media Development Director and Media Services Manager for MITx in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Office of Open Learning. In this role, she leads a team of media professionals in producing innovative, high-quality educational content that advances MIT’s mission of accessible and transformative online learning. Her work emphasizes not only the technical craft of media production but also the pedagogical strategies that make digital learning engaging, inclusive, and effective.
Ms. Scott earned her BA in Communications and Film Studies from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC (2001) and her MA in Visual and Media Arts with a concentration in fictional narrative production from Emerson College in Boston, MA (2004). Drawing on her background in film and communications, she has developed a career at the intersection of media creation and education. Her professional path includes serving as Lead Video Producer in Product Development at Harvard Business Publishing, where she oversaw video integration in online learning products, before joining MIT in 2013.
At MITx, she has guided the evolution of media support for massive open online courses (MOOCs) and faculty-led digital learning initiatives. Her work spans video production management, resource planning, technical standards, process design, and faculty training, always with a focus on how media enhances learning outcomes.
In the Media and Learning Association, Lana serves as both a board member and a member of the advisory committee.
