Markus Tischner

Markus Tischner is an experienced filmmaker, learning expert, and trainer specializing in educational media, science communication, and AI-supported learning design. Since 2008, he has been producing films that make complex topics accessible, engaging, and relevant for clearly defined audiences.
Alongside his freelance work as a filmmaker, Markus heads media production at the Competence Centre Education at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), Germany. In both contexts, he develops educational media and science communication formats. He also trains researchers, educators, and university staff in science communication, educational media production, and the use of AI in teaching and learning.
Since 2022, Markus has been exploring the potential of generative AI as a co-creator in learning design, media production, and higher education. As an early adopter, active user, and trainer of AI technologies, he helps educators and researchers understand how AI can support creative and academic workflows, while maintaining a critical perspective on its opportunities, limitations, and challenges.
His work is shaped by a strong hands-on approach: Markus not only produces media himself, but also supports educators, researchers, and project teams in developing their own concepts, workflows, and production skills.
With an academic background in geography, focusing on soil geography and high mountain ecology, as well as geology and biology, Markus brings a strong understanding of scientific topics to his work. Combined with his many years of journalistic experience, this enables him to translate complex research into clear, engaging, and audience-oriented formats.
