Prof Mike Wald

Professor Mike Wald leads research, development and practice in accessible technologies at the University of Southampton and is a fellow of the Alan Turing institute investigating how AI can enhance Inclusion. He has had many years’ experience teaching and working with disabled students and established the disability support services at 8 English universities and has advised National and International organisations about accessibility and technology for learning. He was a founder member of an international consortium of leading universities and organisations developing speech recognition captioning and transcription technologies to enhance the accessibility of lectures and video and won National and International awards for his technology application ‘Synote’ enhancing accessible learning from video. Over 20,000 people in more than 150 countries have enrolled on his free Futurelearn online inclusion and digital accessibility courses.
