Mikhail Fominykh is a researcher at the IMTEL research group at the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. At IMTEL, Mikhail is acting as a project manager for four education-focused EU projects DE-TEL, eROBSON, VR4VET , and ARIDLL. Mikhail also manages software development and is several nationally funded R&D projects and acting as a scientific advisor for student projects.

As a volunteer, Mikhail serves as the general chair of the summer school for doctoral candidates organized by the European Association for Technology-Enhanced Learning.

Mikhail is also active as an entrepreneur. He is the founding director of a technology startup WEKIT ECS that develops an open-source Augmented Reality training platform MirageXR.
