Monika Theron

Monika is the newly appointed Director of the Media & Learning Association, where she leads the organisation’s strategic direction, business development, and member engagement to promote the role of media, digital technology, and media literacy in education. She represents the association across networks and public platforms, fostering partnerships and advocating for innovation in teaching and learning.
Previously, Monika led the Data and Media Team at the Leiden Learning and Innovation Centre (LLInC) at Leiden University, where she contributed to institutional strategy and managed projects at the intersection of education, media, and technology. Her work focused strongly on immersive technologies and AI in learning, and she played a central role in community building—most notably as Head of Relations and Partnerships for XR ERA, an international network advancing the use of XR in education. With a background in film and television, Monika spent much of her career working across the southern part of the African continent, particularly in Namibia, where she was born. Her family roots trace back to the Czech Republic, and her international experience continues to inform her creative and forward-looking approach to media and learning.
