Sean Manley

Sean is a Lecturer and Researcher with the School of Stem Education, Innovation and Global Studies in Dublin City University Institute of Education. He delivers modules on Research Design and Entrepreneurship on the MSc in Education and Training Management programmes.

Sean is undertaking his PhD studies with research entitled "Understanding and facilitating the changing role of FET teachers in collaborative strategic partnerships with industry". By exploring and better understanding teacher professional identity within the Further Education and Training sector, the study aims to support the development of sustainable and collaborative strategic partnerships between education and industry professionals.

Previously Sean taught for 19 years in Youthreach, Ireland's principal education programme for early school leavers. During this time, he was involved with local, regional and national level representative bodies, including boards of management and national advisory committees for Teachers Union of Ireland. While working in Youthreach he undertook an exploratory sequential mixed method study to better understand staff recruitment and retention challenges seen nationally across the provision

A focus of Sean’s research and experience has been working to empower teachers and educators to meaningfully engage students in their learning through online and app-based supports delivered through several Erasmus+ projects.
